Another low-key weekend here. Found out my family is going to Jamaica this spring break. I am pretty pumped. Other than that, I have been drawing a lot and have been trying to finish up the landsted signs. I have all the smaller signs done, now its the big ones i have to conquer. they are 3×4 feet! The hardest thing aobut making these signs was coming up with the material. I have decided to use plywood…(primed, painted and smooth). I did a vinyl test the other day and I think it will work great for the signs.

So, the vinyl cutter finally came today. Exciting. I got it all put together and it’s now up and  running on the PC desktop. I couldn’t hook it up my mac cause (1) I need a copy of CS2…(I have CS3, too new for the cutter) and (2) my powerbook has a long list of problems and is being sent to apple in a couple days. The last couple days I have been designing signs for Landsted, and working on a new portfolio site. It’s pretty simple. I just took the spreads from my book and put em on a web page - so check it out HERE. Lemme know what you think.

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

I have been working on a poster for the ‘Collapse and Recovery’ project through AIGA. The posters were due yesterday…I finished just in time. Yesterday was an alright day. I am really having trouble coming up with my ’self identity’. It is so hard! Anyway… today I hope to print some cyanotypes on photo class. Gotta go now.

design camp

Monday, October 8th, 2007

recieved a scholarship last semester to attend design camp and it was this weekend, in Nisswa, MN. It was a great time! We learned a lot and had fun. The keynote speaker on friday, Jason Munn, was very interesting to listen to. He grew up in WI and now lives in California. He designs posters for bands like the shins, the books, nouvelle vague, against me…etc. The cool thing about his posters is that they are all screen printed…up to editions of 500. I also went to book-binding workshop and learned how to bind a couple simple kinds of books. I ended up getting a free ‘food stamp’ on my card, which was cool…but I guess costs $80 a day to have. I only took advantage of it once and the food was not the greatest. We also had a good time hot tubing at the hotel. On saturday, we were at camp all day long, and wegot dinner at a place called Zorbaz, where every ’s’ was a ‘z’. They had pizzaz, enchaladaz, paztaz…etc. the ‘z’ thing gets real annoying. After dinner, we went back to camp with some ‘beverages’ and enjoyed the brass band,(who were awesome) and we mingled with fellow designers and design professionals. Oh, and I forgot to say,we got pounds and pounds of paper samples!

name out betta!

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

It was homecoming week at school and the VIZ l LAB decided to participate by having a ‘name our betta fish contest’. Phil and I collaborated and came up with a poster and a box. Phil set up the web cam on the fish’s tank so he could be played swimming on the big screen. This weekend has been pretty lazy. My roomies, (steve and meg) and myself went up to the dollar store to get some candy, then bought some movies and we have been veggin out all day. we watched knocked up and teenage mutant ninja turtles and made a heaping plate of nachos. good time.

betta!!!
